A trionfare come miglior film è stato The Shape of Water, mentre Get Out, Wonder Woman e The Big Sick hanno vinto nella categorie di genere. Per quanto riguarda le serie tv, invece, sono stati confermati i vincitori di Emmy e Golden Globe, ovvero diversi premi per Big Little Lies, The Handmaid’s Tale e The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Nonostante il colore si tornato ad essere protagonista del red carpet, dopo il blackout dei Golden Globe, un’altra ombra ha ottenebrato Critics’ Choice Awards: James Franco è stato premiato come Miglior Attore in una commedia per The Disaster Artist, ma non si è presentato a causa delle recenti accuse di molestie. L’attore ha partecipato ai talk show serali con Stephen Colbert ed il presentatore dei Golden Globe Seth Meyer ed ha detto che le accuse non sono accurate e l’hanno scioccato, ma sostiene il fatto che le donne si sentano libere di parlare della loro verità è giusto.
